Kurenai - 06

Episode 06 “A Light Probably Shines Over Your Head” at a glance:

A talent scout comes by Shinkurou’s apartment complex with a strange proposition: for them to put on a musical as a building and sing/act in it. Strangely enough, Shinkurou’s two neighbors and Murasaki are more than willing to participate. As pitch problems continue, the search for the female lead singer drags Yuuno and even Yayoi into the performance.

After going through tons of song and fun times, Ginko figures out that something odd is definitely going on with the play production and decides to investigate. After running into Benika, she tells everyone that she hired the talent scout and staged the whole thing so that Murasaki, the others and even her employee Yayoi could have some fun and let loose.

Murasaki + mother

(Notice how they are ordered by most depressed)

A drama performance from Murasaki?

Cast to audience ratio, 2:1

Review: Kure-nai, the musical! In this episode we get to hear almost all of the main characters singing (sometimes awfully) as they practice for their role in the play. And even though Yuuno is one of the tone deaf vocalists, shes particularly cute in this episode. It’s also hard to resist Murasaki’s young voice.

Pretty much the last 1/3 of this episode takes place in song, which surprised me a great deal. This episode definitely pushed the bounds for style in Kure-nai; a musical episode was not something that I had expected coming from this very earthy type of anime. Even though not much got done, it was good times to be had for all the main characters, even for Yayoi (who actually sings pretty damn fine karaoke).
